Everything that happened — and everything we've uncovered.

The Attack

At approximately 12:53 PM near 47th Avenue and 39th Place in Sunnyside, Queens, Neelu was attacked by two Cane Corsos. The man walking the dogs lost control when they began lunging. Bystanders intervened to pull the dogs off.

Emergency Surgery

Neelu underwent 6+ hours of emergency surgery. His spleen was removed, along with parts of his lungs and GI tract. He was placed in ICU. His owner was treated at the ER for bite wounds, tetanus, and rabies shots.

Neelu Passes Away

Veterinarians confirmed they could not save Neelu. His family was with him as he was put to rest.

"Eduardo" Contacts Family

The man who was walking the dogs — identified as "Eduardo" — messaged the family on Facebook and met them at the 108th Precinct. He claimed the dogs were not his and refused to identify the owner. He offered financial compensation and stated that the owner would provide her name and number to the police but not to the family. Police refused to take his statement.

"Lindy" Calls from Private Number

A woman calling herself "Lindy" called from a private number, claiming to be the dog owner. She contradicted "Eduardo"'s account and minimized the attack. The family recorded the call.

Accountability Being Pursued

The family is actively pursuing all available legal remedies against the parties responsible. This includes potential civil liability for individuals and businesses affiliated with the dogs that attacked and killed Neelu. Efforts to identify those who may bear responsibility for the custody, control, or harboring of these animals are intensifying. The family is calling on the owner to come forward.
